MADE IN Contemporary Crafts – Design Platform

On 31 March 2023, visitors to the conference "MADE IN DIALOGUES - Zukunft Handwerk // Crafting the Future" will be able to discuss the future of craft as an instrument for social and ecological change with international experts at the Japanische Palais.

MADE IN Contemporary Crafts – Design Platform

The MADE IN Platform for Contemporary Crafts & Design brings together ten partner institutions from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal and Germany to promote the transfer of knowledge between crafts, design and research and is funded by the EU programme Creative Europe. MADE IN focuses on future-relevant questions about the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and the realisation of sustainable production in today's society. In Saxony, the Museum of Decorative Arts of the SKD and the Faculty of Applied Arts of the West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau in Schneeberg are involved in this project. The project activities include, above all, the expansion of the MADE IN platform, which has been in existence since 2018. This digital database collects information on regional craft businesses, manufacturing techniques and material expertise in order to preserve craft knowledge, network it anew and make it usable. In addition, the exchange of knowledge and cooperation between (traditional) craft enterprises and contemporary designers and researchers is promoted in the form of workshops and artist-in-residence programmes. The programme builds on the results of the previous project "MADE IN: Crafts - Design Narratives", which were already presented in 2021 in an exhibition in Schneeberg by the Museum of Decorative Arts in cooperation with the Faculty of Applied Arts at the University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. The project was also supported by Creative Europe in the period from 2018 to 2021.

Konferenz im Japanischen Palais

The conference "MADE IN DIALOGUES - Zukunft Handwerk // Crafting the Future" was the prelude to the continuation of the MADE IN platform. The participating partners from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Portugal and Germany discussed the future of crafts as an instrument for social and ecological change with international experts from the fields of crafts, design and research. How can crafts, design, technology and research work together constructively and how can craft knowledge be passed on to future generations? The MADE IN platform partners presented their activities and were complemented by further examples of best practice.

Livestream

A panel discussion and round tables offer the opportunity to discuss at eye level with the experts present. The conference can also be followed via livestream. Simultaneous translation into German and English will be provided.
