The exhibition extends over seven rooms in the Bergpalais. Exhibited are approximately 60 acquisitions of the years 2006-2010, among them 20 pieces of jewellery by the Dresden goldsmith Rainer Schumann. From the journeyman's and the masterpiece to his last works, an entire artist's biography can be depicted. Only rarely is it possible to document the development of a contemporary artist all along his work. Due to the limited availability of gold and silver in East Germany, Schumann experimented early on with materials such as acrylic and, hereby, created unique material combination. Next to up-to-date arts and crafts by Manfred Schmid, Ute Großman or by the newcomer Stefan Strube, „New Things“ also shows objects by more established designers such as Richard Riemerschmid or Edward Hald.

Young and experimental product design is to be found in the last two rooms of the Bergpalais. Students of the University of Applied Science Dresden (Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden) dealt with the subject of „The Pitcher in the Household“ in the context of term papers. The results was experimental product design – surprising, even contrary relaunches and completely new ideas. Critical approaches regarding functionality and form of the pitcher as well as sound and shot studies are shown in short films and documentations.
